Pramono Inaugurates New Temple in PIK 2

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially inaugurated the Tian Fu Gong Temple in the Riverwalk Island area of PIK 2, North Jakarta.

The construction of this temple is more than just a physical feat

Beyond serving as a symbol of diversity, tolerance, and interfaith harmony in the capital, Pramono hoped that the temple would also become a prominent religious tourism destination.

“The construction of this temple is more than just a physical feat. It stands as a vital symbol of harmony, unity, togetherness, and interfaith tolerance within the fabric of Jakarta’s society,” he expressed, Monday (5/18).

In his opening remarks, he extended his appreciation to the devotees, the Sanggar Sinar Suci Foundation, and all parties who worked hand-in-hand (gotong royong) to bring the temple to fruition. He emphasized that diversity is one of the cornerstones of Jakarta’s evolution into a global city.

He believes that a city's progress should not be measured solely by economic growth and infrastructure development, but also by social harmony and the spiritual well-being of its residents. This vision aligns with the collective aspiration for Jakarta to thrive as an advanced, inclusive, and sustainable global metropolis.

"To that end, the Jakarta government remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding religious freedom, ensuring that every citizen has a safe and dignified space to practice their faith," he explained.

Besides being a place of worship and spiritual enrichment, he hopes the Tian Fu Gong Temple will evolve into a hub for social interaction and cultural preservation. Its presence is expected to bolster Jakarta’s identity as a global city that deeply values its traditional heritage.

Further, Pramono highlighted the unique nature of the Riverwalk Island area in PIK 2, which hosts various houses of worship within a single enclave—ranging from the Al-Ikhlas Mosque and a Buddhist temple to the Tian Fu Gong Temple for Tridharma/Taoist followers, with plans for a Catholic church in the works. Then, the coexistence of these four houses of worship perfectly mirrors Indonesia’s pluralism.

He also noted that the concept of an integrated religious zone in PIK 2 holds significant tourist appeal. He revealed, the Jakarta government is currently considering ways to enhance transport connectivity to PIK 2, including the potential development of an LRT line connected to the area.

“I see immense potential here. With improved transportation connectivity, I am confident this area will become a new magnet for religious and cultural tourism in Jakarta,” he concluded.
